Macdonald Burlington Hotel, in the centre of Birmingham, has just welcomed its first student on to its new chef apprenticeship programme – a programme designed to develop the next generation of professional chefs.

Macdonald Burlington Hotel is running a 15-month course in conjunction with a nationally recognised training provider. The course will offer training under the guidance of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts chefs.

The course will include masterclasses on a variety of culinary skills in butchery, fish, offal, game, bread and pastry. The apprentices will also receive individual mentoring at the workplace from the head chef and sous chef.

At the end of the course the apprentices will sit an independently assessed exam testing both theoretical and practical skills.

Tim Sparrow, general manager at Macdonald Burlington Hotel, said: “The introduction of the chef apprentice course illustrates a commitment from Macdonald Hotels & Resorts to invest in the next generation of top chefs.”
