New owners of the Beetham Plaza building in Liverpool have published plans to convert the building into a hotel. Currently Beetham Plaza, which was built in the 1990s, includes luxury apartments, a couple of restaurants, a range of offices and an underground car park.

The new hotel is set to include a ground-floor restaurant and café space.

The proposed hotel development, if granted planning permission, would be managed by Liverpool-based EPIC, who recently opened the new Seel Street Hotel that forms the centrepiece of the £100million Wolstenholme Square project in the centre of Liverpool.

Beetham Plaza is located on The Strand in the centre of Liverpool, close to Liverpool James Street station and across the road from Liverpool’s Albert Dock.

Spanish-based Riu Hotels & Resorts has acquired a building in central London with plans to open a new 4-star Riu Plaza Hotel. It will be the first Riu branded hotel in the UK and a 2020 opening date is anticipated.

The building is at 1 Neathouse Place, close to Victoria Station, Westminster Cathedral and Buckingham Palace.

The building was originally constructed in the 1960s and was fully renovated in 1997.

The Riu Plaza will have 350 bedrooms with a bar and restaurant plus an open-air terrace.

Riu Hotels & Resorts specialise in holiday resort hotels. However, Riu Plaza is the group’s growing city centre hotels portfolio.  Riu Hotels & Resorts now has 93 hotels in 19 countries including six Riu Plaza hotels.

The Buxton is a new pub and hotel opening inside an old Victorian building on the corner of Brick Lane and Osborn Street in east London.

The Buxton is named after the local social reformer - Sir Thomas Foxwell Buxton.

The Buxton will feature a ground floor pub, with a standalone open kitchen and bar with counter seating serving a European food menu - plus a seven-storey hotel above with 15 bedrooms.

The bedrooms in The Buxton will have a simple decor, with multifunctional furniture and handwoven textiles. The corridors on the other hand will boast hot pink walls and 1950s patterned carpets.

The Buxton will also feature a rooftop terrace with an honesty bar and a hot tub.

The Buxton is expected to open spring 2019.

Building work has just started on a major project to extend the DoubleTree by Hilton Nottingham - Gateway hotel. The £2.7million project will add a further 36 bedrooms.

The work is expected to take nine months to complete. It comes just after the hotel has completed a £5million refurbishment.

When complete DoubleTree by Hilton Nottingham - Gateway will have 141 bedrooms.

All bedrooms at DoubleTree by Hilton Nottingham - Gateway feature complimentary wi-fi, a 40-inch HDTV with Freeview, a refrigerator and a walk-in rain shower. There is a restaurant and bar and ten flexible meeting and events rooms.

DoubleTree by Hilton Nottingham - Gateway is located three miles from the centre of Nottingham with good access to the M1 at junction 26.

Accor Hotels are on the march in Yorkshire. The French-based hotel chain has signed five new Yorkshire-based hotels to its portfolio. They include:

MGallery York - Mercure Leeds Centre - Mercure Kenwood Hall (pictured) - Mercure Tankersley Manor.

The 59-bedroom Mercure Leeds Centre is already open. The other three are set to undergo extensive renovations ahead of their opening dates.

The fifth hotel will be the 125-bedroom ibis Budget Sheffield. This is a new-build property still under construction and expected to open late 2019.

All five hotels are set to open and be operational by the first quarter of 2020. 

The hotels, which together comprise 443 bedrooms, will be operated by different management and franchise partners.

Carden Park Hotel, Golf Resort and Spa in Cheshire has published plans for a refurbishment of its Shooting Suite - expected to complete in early 2019.

The Shooting Suite will accommodate up to 150 guests. It will feature state-of-the-art facilities suitable for a range of events including conferences, meetings and training courses.
