The Olympia Exhibition Centre in London has been the ‘venue of choice’ for major exhibitions, shows and conferences for decades – including International Confex, the Conference and Events industry’s annual showcase. It is set to undergo a £1billion transformation.

The aim is to turn the Victorian-built halls into a world-beating cultural and events venue, competing for major trade shows against Frankfurt and Paris.

The plans outline a new 1500-seat theatre and a 1000-seat performance space plus a four-screen cinema and two hotels as well as office space and studios.

The plans have been drawn up by Heatherwick Studios who were responsible for designing the 2012 Olympic Stadium in London.

With the demise of the exhibition centre at Earls Court, demolished in 2015, the only alternative to Olympia for major shows in the capital is now ExCeL London in Docklands.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council have approved the scheme.
