Accor Hotels Group has committed to invest in sustainable food systems and reduce food waste in its hotels. The move is part of its Planet 21 sustainable development strategy.

As part of its strategy, 26 Accor hotels in the UK have now introduced urban vegetable gardens with a view to supplying fresh vegetables and salads in their restaurant menus.

As you know we cannot resist a ‘hotel-and-bee’ story.

Hence we are delighted to see that Novotel London Tower Bridge (pictured) is keeping beehives in its rooftop garden and this year is expecting to produce 30kg of honey for use in its Keepers kitchen and bar.

In addition, the group’s five-star resort Fairmont St Andrews in Scotland has welcomed 20,000 Scottish dark honey bees to its grounds. Expect its first harvest of honey in 2019.

Accor Hotels UK & Ireland has also partnered with ‘Too Good To Go’, an online marketplace for surplus food, in its bid to reduce food waste. It is the first hotel group to join the Too Good To Go platform in the UK.
