An application by Toyoko, the Japanese hotel group, to build a new hotel in central Manchester has been recommended for approval. It will be the group’s first UK hotel although they do have hotels in both France and Germany.

The hotel, a Toyoko Inn, will be located at 12-16 Piccadilly. The building, 22-storeys in total will be integrated with the on-site refurbished Grade II-listed Union Bank Building, which dates back to 1911.

Toyoko Inn focus on sites close to railway stations. Manchester Piccadilly station is a two-minute walk from the proposed hotel.

Toyoko Inns are described by the group as 'stylish yet affordable business hotels’.

Toyoko Inn will have 356 bedrooms on the property's first, second, third and fourth floors. Toyoko hotels do not include restaurants but Toyoko Inn Manchester will have a breakfast room in the former bank building.

The proposals will go before Manchester City Council's planning committee on 13th December.

Toyoko Inn's recommendation for approval comes days after plans for a new Leonardo Hotel also near Manchester Piccadilly station were unveiled.
