Plans to transform two Edinburgh buildings into Gleneagles' first hotel outside its Perthshire estate have been approved.

The project will see a new 33-bedroom hotel open in the former Bank of Scotland premises next to Dundas House in St Andrew Square in the centre of Edinburgh.

The building which closed as a bank in 2016 will have a three-storey rear extension as well as a bronze-cladded garden pavilion and a glazed roof terrace.

The former bank building dates back to the 18th century and is known locally for its roof statues which overlook St Andrew Square.
