Plans have been approved for a new hotel on the Bicester Heritage site in Oxfordshire.

Bicester Heritage is UK’s best preserved WW2 RAF Bomber Station. It now showcases classic automobiles and aeroplanes.

The new hotel on the site will feature a four-storey atrium. It will have 344 bedrooms, a restaurant and bar, courtyard, gym, swimming pool and spa plus conference and events facilities.

Bicester Heritage is set to become a major feature along the Oxford-Cambridge ‘growth corridor’. The new hotel will offer business accommodation and high-tech conferencing facilities to match.

Bicester Heritage is a 425-acre site. It is within a two-hour journey for over half the UK population and is within easy reach of major attractions including Blenheim Palace, Stowe House, Silverstone Circuit and the City of Oxford.

The new Elite Athlete Centre and Hotel at Loughborough University in Leicestershire has just opened.

The hotel, opened by Double Olympic Champion Lord Sebastian Coe, has been developed in partnership with UK Sport, Sport England and the English Institute of Sport.

The Elite Athlete Centre and Hotel complex is the first of its kind in the UK; offering a support environment for individuals and teams at both elite professional and dedicated amateur levels.

The Elite Athlete Centre and Hotel at Loughborough University will be managed by Imago Venues, the University’s conference, hotel and events company.

The Elite Athlete Centre and Hotel has 44 twin en-suite bedrooms, including 20 cutting-edge ‘altitude rooms’.

The altitude rooms allow athletes to adjust the climatic conditions, enabling them to sleep in environments that simulate altitudes of up to 5,000m whilst being able to maintain their regular low-altitude training programme. Apparently, sleeping at high altitude can stimulate the production of red blood cells so when the athlete/guest returns to sea level, their bodies have an increased oxygen-carrying capacity.

The Elite Athlete Centre and Hotel also has a specialist nutrition room to meet athletes’ specialist dietary requirements.

Packages are available allowing guests access to the University’s on-campus sports facilities, including the indoor athletics centre and outdoor stadium, sports halls and all-weather pitches, a 50-metre swimming pool, squash, badminton and netball courts, an indoor tennis centre and outdoor courts plus fitness centres.

Proposals have been published to transform the Tyne Bridge North Tower in Newcastle/Gateshead into a multi-purpose events venue.

The plans would see the first floor of the seven-storey granite building, which is currently vacant, converted for use as a venue for exhibitions, corporate events, dinners and entertainment events.

Tyne Bridge links Newcastle to neighbouring Gateshead.

The North Tower first opened in 1928 and was upgraded to Grade II-listed status in August 2018.

A planning application has been submitted to Newcastle City Council.
