A new boutique hotel is set to open in the centre of Birmingham subject to planning approval.
 
Plans have been unveiled to regenerate King Edward House in New Street, to create a 259-bedroom hotel.
 
The ground floor would remain as retail outlets. The upper floors would be converted to hotel accommodation. The exterior of the building would also get a face-lift.
 
King Edward House is located in the heart of Birmingham opposite the Britannia Hotel on New Street and a two-minute walk around the corner from Birmingham New Street Station.
 
No operator has been signed up yet although “negotiations are ongoing with one company”.

Market Street hotel is a new hotel which has recently opened in Edinburgh. The hotel is situated on the border of Edinburgh’s historic Old Town and its New Town next to the City Art Centre.

Market Street hotel has 98 boutique style rooms and suites and features Nor’Loft a rooftop Champagne lounge with views across the city skyline.

Market Street hotel is a member of Design Hotels and is the group’s first hotel in Scotland.

Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa Dundee has begun a planned £1.4million refurbishment programme. Work will include a revamp of the hotel’s public spaces including its restaurants, bar, meeting and events suites and its leisure facilities.

The refurbishment is expected to complete in early 2020. The hotel will operate as normal throughout.

Twelve months ago, Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa completed a £2.4million upgrade of all its 151 bedrooms.

Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs, former Manchester United footballers turned hoteliers, have revealed the opening date of their latest venture: The Stock Exchange Hotel in Manchester.

The historic former Stock Exchange in Norfolk Street will re-open as a luxury hotel on 15th November 2019.

The Stock Exchange Hotel will have 40 bedrooms, including signature suites and a top-floor residence. There will be five room types, each more luxurious than the last, plus two different suite types.

The Stock Exchange Hotel will feature 'The House'. Spanning 346 sq-mt, this penthouse residence will have its own private roof terrace, three en-suite bathrooms, a kitchen, two lounge areas, a dining area, a bar and a gym.

'The Bank' will be a private dining room for 20 guests. 'The Vault' will accommodate up to 120 guests for a reception or 80 delegates for a theatre style presentation.

Chef Tom Kerridge will be opening his first Manchester operation beneath the historic dome on the former trading floor of the Stock Exchange.

The Manchester Stock Exchange was built between 1904 and 1906 and opened on the 13th December 1906. It is located in Norfolk Street in the financial quarter of central Manchester.

easyHotels group are reported to be in discussion with local authorities across the country with a view to establishing hotels in council owned buildings which are not fully utilised.

easyHotels propose to take over part of a council’s building to make a return from an asset that would otherwise be redundant. As an example, an easyHotel could be established in a council property which houses a library on the ground floor but is otherwise vacant.

The easyHotel brand targets a demographic of travellers aged between 18 and 40 with a simple product, which is compact, clean and comfortable.

The buildings suitable for hotel use would be located in the centre of a city or town, no more than a five-minute walk from food and beverage outlets and ten to 15 minutes' walk from the nearest bus station or main rail terminal.

The initial response from council chiefs is reported as ‘very encouraging’.

 

London will welcome the first Zedwell-branded hotel in early 2020.

Zedwell Hotel will open in the Trocadero building in London's Piccadilly.

Zedwell will have around 750 bedrooms, various food and beverage outlets plus a rooftop bar which will accommodate up to 1000 people.

The Zedwell brand, as its name suggests (zzzz's) , has the sole aim of creating the perfect environment for a good night's sleep. Expect soundproofed doors, noise-reducing walls, comfortable beds, cosy furnishings and calm-inducing colours.

The Trocadero building first opened in the 17th century as an entertainment venue. More recently it was home to the first 3D imax cinema in the UK and then became an arcade game centre. The Trocadero is owned by Criterion Capital who have plans to open three more Zedwell branded hotels in London in 2020: a 120-bedroom hotel in Edgware Road; a 220 bedroom hotel in Great Russell Street and a 122-bedroom hotel in Greenwich.
