scotland fam5After a short flight to Edinburgh we were met at the airport and driven to the Macdonald Marine Hotel & Spa in North Berwick.

On arrival we were greeting by Alia Saunders-Lecuyer, National Account Manager and Helen Butler, Director of Sales Central Scotland & North East England.

The Macdonald Marine Hotel & Spa in North Berwick is renowned for its beautiful coastal setting and glorious 19th century Victorian architecture. Situated on the East Coast of Scotland, the Macdonald Marine Hotel & Spa has 83 unique bedrooms to choose from - a world of four star luxury.

scotland fam2Alia and I went through for pre-dinner drinks and a welcome talk by the General Manager followed by a three course dinner in the Bass Rock Suite.  The Bass Rock Suite is a naturally lit and regally decorated ballroom space; capable of holding up to 300 people, it's the biggest and brightest space. That said, the Bass Rock Suite is extremely flexible and can be adapted to suit your specific needs. The room can be partitioned into two separate, soundproofed spaces - each space capable of holding up to 150 people. Served with a bar area, private balcony, views over Bass Rock to Firth of Forth and beautiful walled gardens.  Drinks followed in the lovely Links Bar and lounges.

scotland fam1Our room at the Macdonald Marine Hotel & Spa was the Jack Nicklaus Suite. It was impressive – very large with fantastic large bay windows overlooking the sea and links golf course – the room was beautifully furnished and immaculate.

On Saturday morning after a lovely breakfast in the Craigleith Restaurant which serves only the finest local produce, offering you prime pickings of a modern and organic menu within our elegant, richly decorated dining room we were taken by coach to the Scottish Seabird Centre. The Scottish Seabird Centre is situated at North Berwick harbour, East Lothian, with stunning views across the Firth of Forth and the iconic Bass Rock.  Here you can use interactive live cameras on the Firth of Forth islands to zoom in on the wildlife action - this means incredible live close-ups without any disturbance to the wildlife. Enjoy seeing them in their natural habitat.

scotland fam3Following lunch at the Macdonald Marine Hotel & Spa we were taken to our next hotel the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel Golf & Spa in Pebbles.  Set on the banks of the famous River Tweed and in the heart of mountain-bike country our hotel in Peebles is well worth a visit.

Macdonald Cardrona Hotel Golf & Spa boasts salmon fishing rights and a magnificent Dave Thomas designed 18-hole championship golf course making this the ideal spot for outdoor activities as well as offering a calm and relaxing atmosphere for those seeking some rest and recuperation.

scotland fam4Some of our party went to the “Go Ape” activity at Glentress Forest, Peebles. It is built on a hillside within the beautiful Glentress Forest (part of Tweed Valley Forest Park). Go Ape Peeblesshire Tree Top Adventure makes good use of the valley for some jaw dropping exposure, and features our highest zip wire over the reservoirs in the valley.

Take to the trees and speed down zip slides. They’re part of an exciting course of rope bridges, Tarzan swings and crossings; all set high above the forest floor. The less strenuous went back to the lovely Spa at the hotel for the afternoon.

On the evening again we had dinner in the Manderston Suite The Manderston Suite offers stunning countryside views and can hold up to 240 people for meetings and functions. The Manderston Suite is a flexible suite and can be partitioned in order to suit your meeting or function; the ideal choice for conferences, dinner dances, weddings and large celebrations and on Sunday morning made our way home.

We had a most wonderful time at the hotels with beautiful scenery surrounding them and the perfect hosts. Our thanks to both the Macdonald Marine Hotel & Spa and Macdonald Cardrona Hotel Golf & Spa for their wonderful hospitality
