birmingham grandhotelBirmingham’s Grand Hotel will have more bedrooms when it finally reopens.

Designs for the revamp of Birmingham’s Grand Hotel in Colmore Row will see the proposed pool, gym and spa removed from redevelopment and replaced with more bedrooms.

Plans for a roof-top pool overlooking Birmingham Cathedral at the new-look Grand Hotel have been scrapped.

Plans for a roof terrace outside the top-floor 'King Suite' have also been abandoned.

The Grand Hotel Birmingham will now have 185 bedrooms along with conference facilities and a restaurant.

The Birmingham Grand Hotel has been closed as a hotel since 2002.  The new Grand Hotel is now due to open in 2019.

Its operator, Intercontinental Hotels Group, will rebrand the hotel but as yet it is not known which of its upmarket luxury groupings it will join.

We will keep watching.
