birmingham grandhotelThe planned ‘new-look’ Grand Hotel Birmingham has just been bought by French investors.

The Grand Hotel, which is scheduled to open in the centre of Birmingham in 2019, was previously a member of the 14-strong Principal Hotel Company.

The new owners of the Principal Hotel Company have reached an agreement with InterContinental Hotels (IHG) and they will now operate the hotel group going forward - including the Grand Hotel.

The decision raises the prospect that The Grand Hotel with 180 bedrooms could become Birmingham’s only five-star hotel.

The Grand Hotel Birmingham will include extensive conference and banqueting space. It will also feature an infinity pool at roof-level overlooking Birmingham Cathedral.

It is not known at this stage what badge The Grand Hotel Birmingham will carry when it does reopen.

IHG will be using the opportunity to rebrand some of the other Principal Hotels under its luxury boutique brand - Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. Some will be rebranded either as InterContinental Hotels or the group’s new upscale conversion brand which will be launched in the second half of 2018.
