birmingham grandhotelI have thought for a long time that the old Grosvenor Suite in Birmingham’s Grand Hotel was one of the best, if not the best, banqueting suite in Birmingham.

Birmingham lost a great facility, albeit temporarily, when the hotel closed back in 2002.

Now we have the opportunity to take a sneak peak at the Grosvenor Suite once again before the planned reopening of the Grand Hotel, which is not expected before 2018.

The 11th Flatpack Film Festival is to open its festivities this year with a screening of a Spanish silent film and a live musical accompaniment in the Grosvenor Suite on 4th April.

It will be the public’s first opportunity in 15 years to see inside the Grade II-listed French-Renaissance style hotel on Colmore Row in the city centre.

It will be a one-off event until the hotel fully reopens following its £45million refurbishment.

The wonderfully decorated and stylish Grosvenor Suite has played host to a long list of royalty, politicians and stars of stage and screen since it first opened in 1879.

My memory does not go back quite that far but I do remember very clearly the successful events and banquets on which I worked in a previous career.

It will be good news to finally welcome back the Grand Hotel Birmingham
